“A Musical Scrapbook” – that’s the subtitle of Snapshots, a collection of Stephen Schwartz songs. Considering what a scrapbook is, you might think that the show is a revue of Schwartz’s songs but it is an original new musical featuring beloved songs from shows including Wicked, Working, Pippin, Godspell, and more. Snapshots: A Musical Scrapbook is a touching and authentic look into how we fall in love and the poignant power of trusting our hearts and memories.
Sue has her bags packed, her farewell note written and the resolution to leave her husband, Dan, after decades of their lives entwined. Finding herself in their dusty, suburban attic for a final goodbye to the life they led, Sue is startled when Dan arrives home early from his all-consuming job and in a panic knocks over a box of photographs. That starts the couple looking through these memories: very different from real life. As Dan notes, “All that seem to last are snapshots.”
Enter Susie and Danny, their 11-year-old selves, as well as Susan and Daniel, twentysomethings in love. Can the memories of their younger selves teach Sue and Dan a thing or two that might save their marriage?
Surrounded by a lifetime of memories and phantoms of their former selves, Sue and Dan rediscover their true love that remained hidden in a lifetime of Snapshots.
